Bowser (Blu) Rottweiler Young Male in Reading, Pennsylvania

My story
Meet Bowser!

***Please read his bio carefully before submitting an application.

Bowser is a 6 month old Rottweiler. Bowser was surrendered to us due to his medical needs. Bowser has several congenital heart conditions that can not be surgically corrected. He is on a daily beta blocker that must be continued for life. Bowser also his hip dysplasia. He is on a new regimen of meds with and is doing phenomenal! His recheck with the orthopedic doctor went well. It's a 50/50 chance he could avoid surgery all together.

Bowser is such a sweet boy who will make an amazing addition to the right home. Due to his heart conditions he needs to live a calmer life. He can not go for long strenuous walks/hiking. Bowser is allowed to play but it isn't advisable to allow him to play too hard for too long. Allowing him to be too active does put him at risk or cardiac arrest. He does amazingly well with his foster family managing his energy. He plays for a while and then takes breaks to gnaw on a bone or take a time out in his crate.

Bowser loves other dogs and would love to have a canine companion. His ideal match would be a calm, confident female. Younger, high energy, dogs are such fun for him to be around. But, he is less likely to understand when it's time to take a break. He respects the adult bully breeds in his foster home and doesn't engage them in play as much since he has adapted to their energy.

Bowser does great with cats.

Bowser also loves children! Triple threat over here! While he has done well with children of all ages a home with children 12+ to live with is required. This is simply due to his size, pain in back end, and tendency to punch all the things. Including you.

Bowser needs a family with prior rottie experience. Bowser did amazing with his strong, consistent leader is his foster family. He knows drop it/leave it. But, transition is hard and being a breed prone to resource guarding we expect regression. You must he willing to utilize proper decompression. He's heading into that teenage "test every boundary" stage and he will walk all over you if you allow it. He will need clear boundaries and an adopter who will not coddle him.

Bowser loves his foster family. He is a big dopey puppy who is unaware of his size. He's basically always happy and looking for new things to investigate. He has your typical puppy tendencies. He can be a chewer but is great at redirection. He loves to punch everything in his path. He can talk back if you take something of high value but a calm, consistent approach followed by praise turns him into mush. He'll flop right over for belly rubs the minute you praise him for desired behavior.

Bowser is crate trained, as long as you hear him whine to go out, and doing amazing with housebreaking as long as you're consistent. While he is a large puppy, he is still very much a puppy, and will need someone able to take him out to potty at least once during a normal working day.
